One of Noosa’s biggest annual events is on this weekend – Competitors and spectators flock to our shores to take part in Australia’s largest triathlon event and the largest Multi Sport Festival of its kind in the southern hemisphere!

24-26 October – Tastings on Hastings festival, Port Macquarie

Born from the Hastings Farmers Markets this regional community event has grown over the years and now encompasses everything from, Woolgoolga in the north to Armidale in the west and Nelsons Bay to the south. The core aim is to celebrate the farming, fresh produce, gourmet produce, wines, beers, chefs, restaurants and cafes of the Hastings region.

The theme for 2014 is Our Story, Our Soul, Our Food which aims to embrace and celebrate the multicultural influences within our community, as we hail our heritage and what has influenced our individual cooking styles.

I will be hosting a Tastings Dinner on Saturday 25th October at The Fig Restaurant and will hold two cooking demonstrations during the main event on Sunday 26th. I’m really looking forward to cooking with the local produce and meeting all the locals.

LET’S TURN THE HEAT UP! There are hundreds, perhaps thousands, of varieties of chillies, used in dishes across myriad cultures and cuisines. Travel with me from Mexico to Sri Lanka to Indonesia and discover the role the chilli plays in each country’s food. In Mexico dried ancho chillies are stuffed and baked, while fresh chillies enliven salsas. Small red and green chillies are essential to Sri Lankan curries, and add heat and flavour to Indonesian sambals and pastes.

My long-awaited third series ‘Mexican Fiesta with Peter Kuruvita’ premiers on Australia’s tastiest network, SBS Food!
